Sivaprasad Gogineni received a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Kansas in 1984. He is now the Deane E. Ackers Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. He has authored or co-authored 70 archival journal publications and more than 110 technical reports and conference presentations. His research interests include the application of radars to the remote sensing of the polar ice sheets, sea ice, ocean, atmosphere, and land.

Prof. Gogineni is a member of URSI, the American Geophysical Union, the International Glaciological Society, and the Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society. From 1994 to 1997, he served as the editor of the Newsletter of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society. He received a best-of-session award from the Third International Airborne Remote Sensing Conference in 1997 and the Taylor & Francis Publishers Award for Best Letter published in the International Journal of Remote Sensing in 1991. As a Fulbright Senior Scholar, he conducted research at the University of Tasmania from August to December of 2002.
